Texas Swim Academy opened in Bruce and Kathleen McMordie’s backyard pool in 2004 with one dream in mind — to share their passion of water safety by providing area children with reputable swimming lessons. Since then, Texas Swim Academy has grown into the leading swim academy in Houston at a state-of-the-art facility with well-equipped instructors who teach children of any age not only how to survive in the water, but thrive, as well.
At Texas Swim Academy, we believe that swimming is more than just a fun hobby or sport, it’s a life skill that can save lives. And when you become a part of the Texas Swim Academy family, you’ll personally experience the difference that sets us apart.
Our Facility
We’ve grown from the humble beginnings of providing swimming lessons in a backyard pool into our beautiful state-of-the-art indoor facility. Texas Swim Academy is home to five 12 x 12 pools designed to accommodate private, one-on-one infant survival skills, as well as a large 30 x 60 pool for stroke development, group lessons and the pre-competition Texas Tritons Swim Club. Our pools always maintain a heated temperature of 88 to 90 degrees so students can remain comfortable during their time in the water.
“It was very important to us to recreate that relaxed backyard experience for our students,” Kathleen says. “The smaller pools and one-on-one instruction fosters an environment where the child feels secure and safe.”
Programs for All Ages
Drowning is an awful, yet preventable, tragedy that can happen to anyone at any age. It is our mission to empower children, starting at the infant age, with the survival skills necessary to be able to protect themselves if they are ever in life-threatening situations in the water. All of our lessons are conducted using a gentle approach, teaching young children in a loving, nurturing environment that allows them to be comfortable and relaxed while learning life-saving skills.
Whether your child is a part of our survival swim lessons or our adaptive aquatics with a focus on children on the autism spectrum or working on their stroke development, we focus on their individual development in a child-sensored atmosphere. We believe that everyone, no matter their age or ability, should be able to enjoy the fun, healthy and life-saving benefits of knowing how to swim. We build relationships with the children, understanding each of their unique needs and ways of learning in order for them to have the best possible experience.
Our Commitment to You
From infant survival skills to providing the skills necessary to become highly decorated competitive swimmers, Texas Swim Academy is Houston’s premier swim academy. Our passion for helping children succeed is what drives us on a daily basis, and there’s nothing more enjoyable than seeing the infants we teach turn into thriving young children in the water as they grow older.
“Our goal at Texas Swim Academy is for every child to have the opportunity for true aquatic success,” Kathleen adds. “We want children to not only be safer in and around the water, but to also develop a lifelong love of swimming.”
Texas Swim Academy is Katy’s home for swimming, and we look forward to passing along our knowledge and expertise to create lifelong swimmers for generations to come.
