Investing in Our Swim Instructors

Choosing the right swim school for your child is an important decision. Not only will you be entrusting your child into the hands of a swim instructor to teach lifesaving skills, but you’re also trusting someone to know your child so they can be taught in a way that caters to their needs and learning style.  At Texas Swim Academy, we understand the importance of the decision you’re making, and that’s why we invest the time and resources into properly training our swim instructors.

Beyond the Water

As a swim school that offers many different types of lessons, it’s imperative that our swim instructors provide more than just tactical swimming skills. And that comes from training beyond the water. Our swim instructors learn how to purposefully communicate with typical children, as well as children with special needs.

“To be a great teacher, you need to be a great communicator,” shares Kathleen McMordie, owner of Texas Swim Academy. Empathizing with a child’s fear while encouraging them to reach further is what makes our swim instructors stand out. We take pride in creating a safe place for children to build a relationship of trust and comfort with their swim instructor, all while inspiring them to become strong swimmers with a respect for the water.

Instructor Training

We set the bar high when it comes to training our swim instructors. Prior to becoming a Texas Swim Academy instructor, everyone goes through a minimum of 100 hours of training, which includes CPR certification and swimming with autism training to better understand and embrace the unique learning styles of all children. Everyone on our team is also a survival swim specialist and TSA-trained stroke development instructor.

We offer the whole package at Texas Swim Academy, and that begins with instructors who are dedicated to offering more than just lessons. While learning to swim is just the beginning, the fun doesn’t stop there. We offer lessons for infants starting at 6  months old through adulthood, as well as stroke development classes to further your technique. You’re never too old, or young, to become a strong swimmer!
